This book really stands out as it is written in verse which makes it a quick and punchy read but there is also a beautiful poetic nature to it. I have not read a book in verse before but instantly enjoyed the style and it made the reading experience flow really nicely and carried the story well.

The book outlines the story of two girls who have lost their father and feel as though they have lost everything but come to learn of each other’s existence. The details unfold in just the right amount of time and the first chapters instantly get you hooked!

I really enjoy books about the immigrant experience and have previously enjoyed Angie Cruz’s ‘Dominicana’ and I feel like ‘Clap When You Land’ is a perfect book to follow on from Dominicana if you were really interested in the world of Dominicans in New York City.

Looking forward to seeing what else the author brings out!
