This is another fantastic book by Elizabeth Acevedo.

Once more written in verse, the narrative is switched between two main characters. The daughters of the same man, they each discover his secret second family when he dies in a plane crash on the way back from one of his regular business trips.

Navigating grief at their fathers deaths, and the betrayal they feel knowing he had another life and another family separate from their own, both girls have to confront their feelings as they get to know their new sister.

Elizabeth Acevedo has a gift for emotion and each page in this story is packed with feelings. I was never a fan of verse novels until I read her book “The Poet X” and “Clap When You Land” continues cementing her relationship as an author to watch out for. Because of her I am a verse book convert.
