This is the second book by Elizabeth Acevedo That I have read and I was equally as blown away by it!
This book is beautifully written in prose, which made it flow really well and made it a really quick read! I was just sucked into the story of these two girls from two different backgrounds coming together. It was really easy to grasp what was happening, and I don’t always find that to be the case with books in prose so I was pleasantly surprised!
Overall, this was a heartbreaking story about loss, grief and hope - I loved seeing the two sisters come together and their sisterly relationship develop over the course of the book.
I haven’t read a book set in the Dominican Republic before so I’m glad to have read this, it opened my eyes to what it is like. I also appreciated the added Spanish phrases however I must admit I had to use translate a few times!
I can’t wait to read everything Acevedo writes, she is truly incredible!
