Clap when you land follows the story of two young girls from very different backgrounds who are both dealing with the loss of a loved one following a tragic plane crash. These half sisters has no idea of the others existence until this tragic incident brings them together.

This is the first book I have read that was written in verse, and I didn’t realise until I started it that it was in verse. If I had known, I’m ashamed to say that I would probably have avoided it, and I would have missed out on this beautiful piece of writing.

The writing style gives the book more impact and emotion and controlled the pace of the book, it truly made it a joy to read.

I always enjoy reading about different cultures, and loved the way that Elizabeth Acevedo brought the two cultures in this book together.

It is a story of love, loss, hope, family, grief and identity.
