Beautifully written
This novel is beautifully written in verse. The characters are relatable and likable. The premise of the novel is the horrific crash of a plane leaving New York City going to the Dominican Republic in 2001. The crash was a real life event, and the author puts a spin on the story, writing about two girls who share a father who was killed on the flight. The story is heartbreaking but still takes on a hopeful tone. While it is technically classified as a young adult book, it can really be read by anyone. I really love the Spanish language that is woven throughout the story and I think that it makes the story even more beautiful. While I normally do not enjoy books that are written in verse like this one, I would highly recommend this book to anyone of any age. It really leaves you thinking and it is definitely a book to reflect on after you finish reading it.
