"Clap When You Land" by Elizabeth Acevedo is an incredibly moving piece that is a must read for people of all ages. I have previously read this author's debut, another novel in verse "The Poet X" and this certainly lived up to it! Elizabeth Acevedo, while popular, is so underrated and I look forward to reading more from them, including her second book, not in verse, "With the Fire On High".

"Clap When You Land" deals with two young Black girls who share a father. They do not know of each other until he tragically passes. The sisters live two very different lives, one in America, on in the Dominican Republic, and come together through their grief.

This book is set between America and the Dominican Republic. The latter is refreshing as we don't often get books set in this area so it was enlightening to experience this setting.

Overall, a very poignant and enjoyable, if not intense read at times.
