It did not disappoint, I loved this book. Elizabeth Acevedo’s talent for written free verse is outstanding. This book was really touching, it literally made me cry in the first twenty pages, having lost my dad, my heart was aching for the girls, hoping for the best possible ending. Both of the main characters are very likeable and relatable. This is the story of two girls with intertwined lives though neither knows of the other. Told in verse style we learn of Camino who lives in the Dominican Republic and in New York Yahaira. The Poet X was my first introduction to Elizabeth Acevedo and I remember devouring the book in one hungry gulp, desperate for more. My first time reading this authors book but it most definitely won't be the last. I can’t wait to pick up more of her work, and discover more of her stories and beautiful writing. Clap When You Land is her newest release and you should definitely pick it up and feel all the emotions it will give you as it did for me.
