I loved this book immensely. To begin with I wasn't sure about the writing style and the layout, worrying that the story would not flow as easily. However, I was completely wrong. The style and layout managed to convey both Camino and Yahaira's thoughts and feelings about the loss of their father in a way that I have never experienced before. Both of the characters were so well developed that there was almost a sense of knowing the two of them personally.

The pieces of their culture was woven in beautifully. I loved the frequent phrases written in Spanish that demonstrated how both girls were so deeply connected to their heritage and the Dominican Republic, the home of their parents and ancestors.

The fact that the plane crash in the story was a real life event only made Camino and Yahaira's experience of grief that more moving. I cannot imagine how the people left on the ground that day reeled from the loss of their loved ones and how their lives were so impacted from it.

An extremely heartfelt and thought-provoking read. Amazing.
