To be very precise, I gave this book 4.5 stars. This book was very emotional, and very moving. I actually listened to the audio alongside reading the book, and I found that this made the book so much more powerful.
Clap When You Land is told in verse, which for me might be the only reason it got 4.5 stars rather than 5, just because of my own personal enjoyment of reading books told in verse, because I will say that the writing was absolutely beautiful.
There were some little parts where there was Spanish with no English translation. I really enjoyed this as it made me feel more immersed in the lives of the characters. I also learnt a lot about the culture of the Dominican Republic which I found very very interesting, and I would be inclined to read more books set here to find out more. The setting and culture was so vivid that I felt thoroughly present in the story.
