Clap when you Land sucked me back into the world of poetry-novels creating such a deep, heart wrenching feeling with its structure and flow. Avecedo deeply explores grief and love through the story of Camino and Yahaira and how their lives intertwine through conflict and pain.
Personally, the book is hard to describe because I’ve honestly never read something like this before; The story is personable and relatable, embracing the harsh truth that traumas happen everyday and we see it everywhere. But understanding it from 2 vastly different viewpoints really widened my eyes.

The characterisation of the two sisters melts my heart and despite their conflict and angst, you still see the love between them and their struggles that relate them to each other. I love how the novel was structured in both pace and writing style, it never dwelled too long on one or the other but also never brushed over the sensitivities.
Overall, it’s a fantastic, beautiful read and maybe it’s because of how real the book is, but I kinda left feeling empty-but equally fulfilled and happy for the sisters and I’m really looking forward to Elizabeth’s future works.
