I really had to think what to rate this book as I couldn’t decide but eventually felt a 2 star was a true reflection of my experience which I know is going to make me unpopular.

The story itself was just….meh. Not great, not bad, just rather bland and un-exciting. Did it have ethnic minority representation? Tick. Did it have LGBT representation? Tick. Did it talk about class and world inequalities? Tick. Yay - it has everything most book reviewers look for to make it a 5 star read. Well not me - I was not impressed.

The story itself was just so plain. Nothing really thrilling or interesting happened. Probably just a 3 star as it’s an average story about 2 sisters living in different countries/worlds who don’t know about one another until their father dies. Honestly, it doesn’t really get anymore interesting than that.

As for the writing, where do I even start?! I love books written in verse: the black flamingo, Moonrise just to name a couple. But this one was bad. It constantly introduces Spanish into the dialogue but with little or no explanation as to why or what it means. The verses did not flow at all and it was just so random and poorly written.

I’m sorry for the ever unpopular opinion but I could not get on board with this book.
