This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Following two girls whose lives are both unknowingly intertwined it deals with grief, love, race, class and so may other incredibly difficult topics in a way that is so utterly beautiful you can't help but want to keep reading until the end of the book.

“How can you lose an entire person, only to gain a part of them back in someone entirely new?”

The way Elizabeth Acevedo writes is magical. There is no other word for it. Each line is crafted so beautifully that I spent a good deal of time reading this in complete awe. Her storytelling is also unparalleled. The way the two voices mirror each other while still having their own identity is wonderful and I cannot wait to read more of Acevedo's work.

Clap When You Land is based on a true event. I did not know anything about the 2001 plane crash it is based on prior to reading yet as soon as I finished the novel I did some research and it made the story that extra bit more heartbreaking.
