The first glance gets us straight into the intriguing plot. The plot itself reminds me of something between homeland, 24 and Madam Secretary. Which is no bad thing! What’s more, I believe things like this does happen in the real world - it’s quite believable. I also believe that for some people, and organisations, they would steer clear of local law enforcement.

One of the best things in the first glance is the scepticism that this was an actual theft. I like that right off the bat rather than trying to draw it out. The other thing I really liked is the balance between descriptive versus conversational. Are there too many characters, this early on? Possibly. But the author does a good job of defining them so it’s easy to distinguish and understand each character. Also, I like the way the author gives us back stories for most characters.

The only negatives so far, in my opinion, is the sometimes repetitive description of Valencia. I understand doing this for, several character’s points of view helps to Build up her persona, but it seems a little too much. I also think a basic conversation between Valencia or the in house security with the key partner about Chris is an odd thing to leave out. I can envisage, when reviewing the CCTV, he could have pulled up his employment/HR info. Simple things such as, when did he begin working here? Who interviewed and hired him? Where did he work previously? A soft background check with a buddy at the local precinct, for example.

Maybe that will come in a few chapters, but I feel like a professional investigator would want that in place before going to the scene of the crime.

That said, I think it’s looking like a good read! My kind of thing and I will look out to get a copy of this book!
