This is my first foray into Oakley’s writing, and wow what an absolute smasher!

Jubilee has an extremely rare condition – she’s allergic to people. Since being diagnosed as a child and having a near death experience when she was a teenager by being kissed, she has not touched, or been touched by anyone.

Her mum left for a rich husband, and the book starts with Jubilee being notified of her mother’s passing. And that the money her mother was sending her will also be stopping.

This is a huge problem for Jubilee. She has been a recluse and not left her house since her mother left her 9 years ago.

So she has the gargantuan task of actually getting out there and finding herself work, and actually integrating with people.

She meets Eric and his son Aja after getting work at a library. Eric is divorced and has adopted Aja following his best friends death. Aja is both brilliantly intelligent yet very troubled.

I adored the fact that books brought these 3 beautifully flawed people together. Jubilee makes Aja laugh, and in turn Eric.

They are all very flawed characters, yet this makes them more human and endearing. They don’t always make the best choices, or make the right move at the right time. And this story shows that it’s ok not to get things right first time.

Ultimately this is a story about pushing yourself out of your own personal bubble and comfort zone and facing some of your fears head on. It’s a risk, it’s terrifying, it’s rewarding, it’s oh so many possibilities.

I really loved this story and how touching it was. And can’t wait for more stories in the future!

I would like to thank Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
