Nell Steven is forty something and her life is according to her in chaos.
She has broken up with her fiancé in California, had to move back to London, she is flat sharing and taking charge of her landlord's dog for a rent reduction.
Broke, rootless, jobless, no children, friends have moved on and have happy lives, no marriage or even love on the horizon for Nell she valiantly sets about trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life.
Then when given a job writing obituaries she meets the 80 year old newly widowed Cricket, though poles apart they get on like a house on fire and the youthful, zesty Cricket teaches Nell there is more to life than wallowing in self pity and it'd never too late to try again.
So Nell starts a podcast, the confessions of a forty something F*** up and her life totally changes.
But can she ever find all she was looking for or has her priorities and goals for her future changed and is it a future that's even better than she ever envisaged.
This was a wonderful novel about love, loss, hope and moving on and sometimes just learning to see that every cloud has a silver lining.
Never read this author before but I was hooked from basically the first page, I really loved and cared about the characters.
With laugh out loud humour this is offset by the serious tone of the characters situations but their tales are so skilfully told you laugh and empathise right along with them.
Definitely an author I am looking out for in future.
