This book may be titled Confessions of a Forty-Something F##k Up but I think any woman of any age will be able to relate to it in some way. I know I certainly did many times.

Set over a year we follow Nell who has broken up with her boyfriend, lost her business and has had to come back to the UK after living in the US. Single, jobless and renting a room from Edward she feels like a f##k up. Her friends are settled, married with children and social media is full of gorgeous homes and delightful children and she feels the pressure.

This book, oh my goodness, it’s an absolute tonic. It had me laughing out loud so many times yet among the humour there are some real lump in the throat moments. Nell is such a fantastic character and her relationship with 82 year old widow Cricket was beautiful. I think everyone should have a Cricket in their lives, I certainly wish I did.

Some things I’ll take away from this book are, not everything is as it seems. Pretty pictures, perfect hair and fancy clothes can hide a multitude of things. It doesn’t matter what age you are, whether you’re 20 or 80 at some points or more than likely at many points in life you’ll feel like a f##k up but there’s always something in life to be grateful for.

Confessions of a Forty-Something F##k Up was a 5 star read for me and one I will be highly recommending.
