A year in the life of Nell - a forty year old woman whose life hasn’t gone the way she planned. Her career is down the pan, her relationship has fallen apart, and she’s no choice but to leave her life in the States behind, and move back to England.

I didn’t love this.

Nell is fine, but I didn’t connect with her in a way I feel I should have.

There isn’t really a plot and it never really goes anywhere, and with it being a fairly big book (500+ pages), it failed to hold my attention. I really, really struggled through through the latter half.

The writing at the beginning of the book drove me mad. It’s like the author was trying to get a world record for how many hashtags she could cram into one page.

The star of the show is, without a doubt, and 80 odd year old woman called Cricket, who takes Nell under her wing and because a bit of a life guru for her. She was spunky and fun and unexpected. I would have much preferred to read her story.
