I felt like this book was easy to read and was something I got into straight away which i always find a positive sign as sometimes I can struggle with the beginning of a book unless it peaks my interest immediately.
We start the book by being introduced to Selena, a hard working mother who has to cope with juggling a full time job with her two children and a husband who is currently between jobs but currently doesnt seem to be doing much to seek employment, but does seem interested in the Nanny. Her worries increase dramatically when she makes a shocking discovery and when she meets a friendly face on the train, a young woman called Martha, she cannot help to unload her troubles to this stranger. Martha shares her confession as well (having an affair with her married boss) and although they both feel comfortable to share their secrets with each other on the train, Martha is not who she seems and their meeting on the train will not be the last Selena hears from this mysterious woman.
The book is told from several characters point of view which I have no problem with, and I often enjoy this style of writing. However in this instance I felt like some of the characters chapters were not needed. For example, when the story is told by the character Hunter i do not feel like this developed the storyline for me.
Although the plot kept me guessing, the main characters were well developed, and their were a few revelations that genuinely surprised me, I felt parts of the storyline have been overdone.
For a book that is marketed as a thriller, it didnt live up to this genre in my opinion but that does not take away from the fact that the plot was gripping, the characters were interesting and I was intrigued until the end. I am not an avid reader of thrillers or psychology thrillers but I do think that a lot of fans of this genre will adore this book. It might not be going into a short or longlist of my favourite books of all time but I enjoyed reading it.
