I didn’t know from the first look what to expect from this psych thriller when I read the first look. This is a go to genre for me. There were some parts that were so dark and twisted and genuinely really scary. Selena was typical of her character unknowing unseeing glossing over here life and trying to create the perfect image to the outside world. I felt sorry for both Pearl and Geneva in varying amounts throughout the story. Pearl to me was so hard and cold a victim of circumstance and for the most part the protagonist along with pop who was her teacher later partner in crime. Overall I thought this was a great example of the genre and the author linked every character very effectively with subtle indications letting the reader know just enough. Pearl was my favourite character due to her complicated personality although I never really figured out what she really gains from exposing Graham and I can only boil that down to blood being thicker than water and deep down despite her lack of warmth that she wanted to help her half sister.
