I liked this book about a woman called Selena, who discovers her husband is having an affair with the nanny. She tells a mysterious woman about it on the train, and then the nanny goes missing. There are two main plots, the one with Selena and another one from a different perspective. I found the other one a lot more intriguing. It was easy to work out how they would relate to each other, so the intrigue was from the unusual circumstances of the characters in the second plot, rather than how they contributed to the overall mystery. The motives and characterisations of the male characters are not as substantial and convincing as they are for the female characters, which deflates the story a bit since one of the men is very key to why events happen as they do. But Selena grows a lot as a character, and it was worthwhile to unpick her life with her. The women’s mindsets are ultimately very believable and well crafted, which made me want to keep reading.
