Historic intrigue
The story is set in 1936 and incorporates all the major events of that time - Nazi uprising, abdication of Edward V111, Spanish Civil War, civil unrest in the UK inspired by Mosley and the recruitment of Russian spies from students at Cambridge University. To be honest, I found it a bit confusing as there were so many characters and so many different storylines. Nevertheless, it was well written and I liked the main character, Tom Wilde, who is a Cambridge history professor specialising in the Elizabethan spymaster, Walsingham. I understand that the sequel, Nucleus, will also feature Tom Wilde and so I will probably read that also although I hope the storyline is not so complex.
