An absorbing and gripping historical thriller set against the backdrop of the political turmoil and competing ideologies of the time. We journey from Berlin to Cambridge and through the corridors of power in Westminster and beyond. Historical events woven into the fabric of this fictitious tale lend it an air of believability so often missing in other books. We encounter the rise of Nazism in Germany, Communism in Russia, the Spanish Civil War and political conspiracy against the Crown and agitation towards war. We get a real sense of the division created in Europe at this time. The characters feel genuine with interesting and often tragic backgrounds which help us understand them as people, their motivations and reasonings better. The plot ambles along nicely to begin with but becomes increasingly breathless as we race towards the finish. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable thriller well worth your time.
