Wow, this first impression packs a punch! Firstly, we find ourselves in Paris witnessing the buds of young love flourish. Whilst Saffron is “...certain in her heart and mind...” that “...she had chosen the right man to love.” This is set against the backdrop of the start of the Second World War. Hitler is on the march through Europe and the young lovers know that soon they will be separated by war. Fast forward and Saffron is working in bomb detonation in Germany, poignantly she thinks about the young men who will be killed by her actions and reflects on how they like her German lover are human with families and loves. This is a pacey first glimpse of what promises to be a thrilling novel of love action and suspense. I may be sentimental, but I do hope Saffron will escape and that love will find a way.
