It's been quite a while since I have read a book set during the war and I usually quite enjoy them. I love anything historical and I was not disappointed with this.
I understand that it's technically part of a long series of Courtney books but I think it can easily be read as a standalone.

I loved the characters of Saffron and Gerhard and I was routing for them from the very beginning. Also, a few of the side characters I really loved as well and even though they weren't in a lot of it, I was invested in them as much as the main characters.

I was gripped from start to finish.
This book is emotional and heartbreaking and truly awful in some places due to certain situations and events (we all know the horrors of the war) but it was worth every second of it!
