The characterisation is limited and this restricts the reader’s empathy. There was scope for cutting down the pages without losing any of the excitement and tension of the plot. There are sections where the exposition is rather clunky and the dialogue unconvincing, as when the exact nature of Gabriel’s mental condition is being discussed.

At one point one of the characters becomes the main suspect in a murder investigation but he quickly evades the police and is seemingly able to roam in and around Berlin without any trouble. This is a quick read that makes on appreciate the best in contemporary psychological thriller/mystery novels.

I don't think I thought I'd like it, but it was pretty good.
