This seems to be tapping into the current vogue for retellings of Greek mythology (Circe, Ariadne, Elektra for example) with the addition of an element of fantasy. Fantasy is not a genre I enjoy and I found the writing rather high-flown. Not sure how either I feel about the Severers having to earn physical scars and relishing when they get one.
