Firstly I have to mention how stunning the cover of this book is - literally mesmerising.
The tale inside is equally entrancing, being a heady mixture of fantasy and Greek Mythology. The main character, Deina, is one of a number of Soul Severers. Bound to the House of Hades she has a virtual lifetime of shepherding souls to the Underworld ahead of her.
However when Orpheus offers freedom in payment for the return of his wife, Eurydice's, soul it is a temptation to hard to resist.
So begins an epic quest into the Underworld which confidently weaves the familiar landscapes/characters of Greek Myth with an exciting new fantasy world.
The story is fast paced and gripping with believable characters. It encompasses friendship, danger, sacrifice and even a hint of romance.
Being the first of a duology, I very much look forward to reading the next instalment!
