“Sing, O muse, a song of Death and the maiden"

This mythological fantasy novel which was inspired by Ancient Greece and the Myth of Orpheus saving his wife from the underworld is filled with twists and turns. The story follows a young woman called Deina who is what they call a servant to the gods and is bound to the house of Hades, she has to follow the orders of a Tyrant named Orpheus to bring his wife back from the dead.

Deina is really engaging and likeable as well as the other characters who as just as fierce. She is allied to a band of fellow severers, a fighter, a scholar, a singer and a thief. Together in there uneasy alliance they must venture into the deadly realm of Hades to complete there mission and gain fortune and freedom.

The world building was so descriptive it felt like I was there in the vivid atmosphere. In the novel loyalty is won and broken, love begins to slowly blossom and lives are put on the line and sometimes sacrificed. However along the journey Deina and her alliance learn many truths than they never wished for.
