Let me start by saying that if you are an historical accuracy purist, this is not the book for you.

What Daughter of Darkness is, is a compelling historical fantasy novel inspired by Ancient Greece and the Myth of Orpheus saving his wife from the underworld.

Whilst places and key historical figures and culture remain the same, the authors have taken a liberal approach to this, and invented their own religious and magic system based around ceremony and god-worship, rather than the divine connections you see in greek myth and novels like Percy Jackson.

The Story follows a group of Hades-worshippers who are compelled by Orpheus, a tyrant controlling much of Greece, to undertake the perilous journey to the underworld in search of his wife.

The lead character is very well written, and the plot moves at pace. The differences are quickly apparent, but I enjoyed the novelty once I accepted this was not a Historical Fiction retelling.

There is drama and mystery, hidden reveals and plenty of loose ends to explore further in book 2, which I will be purchasing upon it's release.

If you enjoy fantasy/mythology, and don't mind too much about strict adherence to history, I think you will enjoy this novel.
