Deina is desperately unhappy, she works as a soul severer escorting the dead to the other realms.
Her mission in life is to escape this fate and to be free, she can only do this by working off a huge debt by slowly amassing the souls she helps.
Then one day hope comes in the shape of the ruthless King Orpheus who wants her and a small group to journey to the underworld to resurrect his dead queen, Eurydice.
In return they will gain their freedom.
But Deina is ina quandary, those she is paired with on this quest are highly untrustworthy and considering they are travelling to the depths of hell battling its vile monsters and devils she needs people she can rely on by her side.
Will she find herself alone in this quest or will she manage against all odds?. This was a brilliant story with so many fantasy and mythological elements.
I really liked Deina and thought she was a brave, feisty character and a great role model who keeps going in the face of adversity.
