This does seem to be a good book but starts off at rather a slow burner as all these kind of books do.
Deina is a soul severer and today is her time to perform an act of punishment which is rarely used.
No matter how much the prisoner was screaming or begging she knew it was something she had to do, the male severers were standing around, watching, annoyed that Deina had been chosen over them to do the ritual.
I have read books before about the gods taking the souls of people but this seems to be done in a different way, not just because the gods can but because there was murder committed and treason being plotted. I am so glad that I am a mere mortal, none of the characters in these kind of books seem good, all have mystical powers and if not that then they are as poor as a church mouse but I really do enjoy reading them which came as quite a surprise to me, would love to read this one
