This is a young adult Novel about a group of soul severers sent on a quest by Orpheus to the underworld to bring back the soul of his deceased wife and help him return her to the living. As expected however all is not quite as it seems and there are adventures and betrayals on the way and not everybody makes it out alive.
I really enjoyed this book. It is not a literary masterpiece but it absolutely does what I want from a young adult fantasy novel. This book combines Greek mythology with a fast paced adventure. There is an undercurrent of romance but thankfully for me, and unlike many young adult books, it is not too heavy on the teen angst/lust, this is very much an aside to the main plot. Though I wonder if this will remain the case in the next book in the series.
The writing in this book is easy read, fast paced and does not require too much brain power whilst keeping you engaged. The character dynamics are interesting and they develop throughout the plot.
All in all this was an easy and fun read, not one that I'm going to remember forever but exactly what I want and hope for in a young adult fantasy.
