Death in Summer as a title itself is oxymoronic - a title of contrasts, and I think that’s what we can expect to play out in this novel. The cover plays with the symbolism of bright, energetic sunlight breaking through the darkness of the title’s words, again exploring the idea of contrast and suggesting that the novel will have hidden surprises, twists and turns.

The juxtaposition between the ‘deadly assassin’ and the ‘innocent victim’ suggests that this will be filled with mystery and intrigue - as all good thrillers should be! The promise of their being ‘a past darker than any he could have imagined’ may be a little predictable, but implies that there will be some hidden depths to the plot - and not a straight forward ‘man murdered’ arc.

I’d be interested to know if these ideas come to fruition in the book.
