This grew on me, along with Inspector Eschenbach, the clumsy and quick-tempered, but intelligent and kind-hearted policeman who loves his food. It was interesting to get some glimpses of Swiss life, some of which were quite eye-opening, particularly the role of national service, the availability of guns and the way the press is controlled.
I enjoyed reading about a likeable detective placed in what was for me an unfamiliar setting, surrounded by some fun and sympathetic colleagues and friends. who managed to sustain a normal family life.
The crime-solving went at a fairly steady and believable pace, with one or two twists along the way to keep things interesting. The translation was good though occasionally I was left a little confused by the wording, thankfully not in relation to anything that was important to the plot.
