Ambivalent
I initially enjoyed the premise of this novel but then found the story took too many diverted routes to the finale. I could not really identify with the characters or the setting and found the book to be extremely descriptive, often going off at a tangent and describing something random in so much detail.
I enjoyed the relationship between Inspector Eschenbach and the younger officer Jagmetti, although I think that is probably a little unbelievable that he would be kept on the case after his behaviour towards a suspect. The ending was also a pleasant surprise as it was not completely predictable.
In my opinion this was an okay read, but I was not so enthralled that I did not want to put it down, which is what I would expect from an exciting thriller.
