This is the first book in the Inspectors Eschenbach series, and based on this one I think it will be a series I'll be reading more of.
The story starts when a high profile banker is found shot dead on a golf course. What starts as a fairly standard police procedural quickly turns darker as the victims background is delved into, and the story remains quite dark throughout, dealing with many unpleasant issues.
This was at times not an easy read due to the content, but the main characters and the interplay between them was well written and believable. I particularly enjoyed Eschenbach's relationship with his pa Rosa Mazzoleni which brought some much needed lighthearted moments to the book.
I would recommended this to crime fans who enjoy being made to think, but be warned its not always an easy read.
