The summer is very hot and there's a body on the golf course and the mystery begins. This book was written over ten years ago and has only just be translated into English, it introduces us to Inspector Eschenbach, the head of Zurich's CID. The shooting at the city's most prestigious golf club proves to be a difficult case and goes off in many directions, before the final answer appears at the very end, which is what any good police procedural thriller sets out to achieve. This is not a novel of great violence or excitement, but one of calmness and thought. The characters are well described with Eschenbach and his family appearing to be quite a normal family. This is the great achievement of the book, those who want car chases and guns booming it is not the novel for you. But if you want good solid writing, almost form an early age of detective fiction, this is good one to have. I'll look forward to another in the series, but I hope I don't have to wait so long.
