Not my usual read and I think it may be a sequel to a prior book(?) but that didn't really matter for this first impression, other than not really getting the setting in the the brief first impression I read.

I found this book and the concept fascinating, set in some sort of futuristic world where Earth has colonised a lot of the Universe except for a Planet Genesis who it is at war with through some kind of portal.

The main character being a starfighter tasked with defending the space portal from Earth's warrior mechs and invasion forces who has been ostrasiced by her people for saving the life of a sentient robot called Abel and is trying to regain their respect by defending the planet.

Cue a jump to the Robot/man Abel and a story on a different planet where he is investigating the Mech producers and the plans of Earth with the aim of finding a way back to Genesis.

It is clearly related to a past story or will have a flashback explanation later on but I don't know how important it is to have read that,I certainly didn't feel confused at any point during this first impression, just the usual curiosity and wanting to read more that comes from any extract.
I enjoyed reading this brief excursion into a sci-fi world for a change and found it well-written. May even look further into the Author to see what else she's done.

It's a 4 not a 5-star as I'm not a fan of the cover or how it is described as from what I've read and the blurb I'm struggling to see what direction the book will be going in and the type of story it is evolving into from just extract
