I'm not really into Sci Fi, but this book is character centred, which made this really enjoyable! Even though I haven't read the first book (Defy the Worlds is the second book), I didn't feel too lost. It didn't take me long to be brought up to speed. I got to know the characters quickly, and the concept of this series is so quirky! A soldier and a robot falling in love? I've never heard anything quite like this before.
There was just enough description to set the scene and immerse the reader, but not so much that it drags. That's usually why Sci Fi turns me off, but Defy the Worlds has a great balance. The tension building is also great, and kept me turning the pages. A really exciting, quirky book!
