Lots of love but not as much as the first book

I was so excited for this book for the better part of a year. Defy The Stars was one of my 2017 favourites, and when I got my hands on a physical ARC of Defy The Worlds from ReadersFirst I cried.

I can't say Defy The Worlds was quite as good as its predecessor. I thought this series couldn't let me down after the sob/squeal fest that was Defy The Stars, but something here was a bit lacking. Maybe because Noemi and Abel are separated for half the book. Things really pick up in the second half, though, and their love story is still the sweetest thing I've ever read. I love them both so much.

I preferred the first book because it was more of an interplanetary adventure. There's a lot less planet exploring here, and a lot more action/escape scenes. Which are nice when Noemi and Abel work together, and a bit meh when they're apart.

There's also a cliche horror movie villain which kinda made me cringe.

I still love this book. I still love the characters. And I can't wait for the next book! I cried a lot at the end, but then my cat ruined the effect by climbing head first into a bin and getting covered in talcum powder.
