So I hadn't realised that this was in fact a sequel until I finished reading the synopsis. And although I am one for completeing a series from start to finish I realised this basically told us how the first book ended.
As a result I just decided to get into this and read it as a stand alone, which I really enjoyed actually. I was very worried I wouldn't understand many of the side-plots but I truly didn't feel that as being a problem. I really enjoyed this book and give it a solid 3.5 stars.
The writing was really easy to get into and the characters were very likeable. The plot was interesting and I like the conclusion of the book. I have to admit I am looking forward to the third book, and because I enjoyed this quiet a bit I would like to give the forst book a go.
