In comparison to Defy the Stars, Defy the Worlds amped up its romance game to create higher stakes for our main characters (Noemi & Abel) to conquer. We get to see character growth which is especially evident in resident robot boy Abel. Their devotion to one another and relationship offers a brief respite in Defy the Worlds to the utterly painful and realistic ethical issues Claudia Grey throws at the readers. In present day, technology has advanced at an extremely rapid pace that we truly cannot imagine. This series points out the problems that the advancement of technology will create when met with social beliefs and acceptance. Claudia Grey does not pull her punches when forcing readers to confront the similarities in the ethical controversies her novels present and the real world.
