Starts with twelve teens in space headed to Mars who soon uncover a document- The Noah Report, which claims Mars is yet uninhabitable. Not safe for survival. The Report is signed by the very same people who sent them up there. A great betrayal.

I liked the premise of this story, it reninded me a little of The Hundred in which teenage prisoners are released from space, onto Earth, as human guinea pigs. Their mission being to check if Earth is survivable, as life in space is growing increasingly unsustainable.

This story, from the excerpt, however wasn't quite as feasible. A woman goes to such great lengths for fame and wealth that she creates a TV-Game type show documenting her 12 'guinea pigs' and their journey into space. Ultimately, she risks their lives for no real sufficient reason. And yet, (this I found most unfeasible) other prestigious scientists knowingly back her venture. Thus sharing responsibility for the twelve participants' death as well.

Sorry, I just couldn't understand. Will reread the excerpt for better luck.... (Haven't understood it any better, I've concluded the character Serena must have her reasons which are all included in the first of this series.)
