Although I haven't read the first book in the series, I found it easy to catch up with what I'd missed.The 12 young gifted people who volunteered to take part in the Genesis Programme have discovered that the experiment was a cruel plan by Serena McBee to further her own political aspirations to become Vice President of the USA. Do they continue and land on Mars and hope that they will be able to discover what caused the deaths of the trial animals in time to save themselves or do they abort the mission and spoil Serena's plans but sentence themselves to a certain death?
