As I hadn’t read the first book and the plot is a little haywire without a recap, it was a little confusing. The story seems to be a mix between reality TV and some teenage film such as hunger games or that one about some sprogs in a maze, who get killed off in some perverse wicked witch plot.

It’s good that there is clarity on who is good or bad. And I like the nuclear powered space craft. I would like to have had the mathematician character explain some of her equations more. The teenage fighting was a little over the top. An uppercut that connects fully could do more than just bloody a chaps mouth, perhaps the Russian could have lost consciousness or broken something?

I prefer a bit more reality to sci-fi. Reality TV is not something I want to read about. If you want to read good mars migration fiction then start with Red Mars.
