Distortion follows on from Ascension, and is the second book in the Phobos trilogy. We pick up with the 12 pioneers having to make a huge decision, and I loved the way in which this book flowed from the first and that it jumped right back into the action. However a slight annoyance for me was that it took too many pages for the pioneers to come to their decision.

I really enjoyed the new settings of Mars, along with more interactions with the boy pioneers, who until now haven’t been explored as characters.

In the way that I found the first book had a plot point that was revealed too early and so it seemed slightly predictable, this book had the essence of excitement as to where the plot would go. There was a sense of impending doom which mixed with the setting of a desolate Mars really set the book up well.

Like the first book the ending has a cliff-hanger which leads you into wanting the next book which I am now moving onto!
