An acceptable sequel

When I read the first book of this series, I was underwhelmed - and, it's safe to say, after deciding to read this sequel in the series, the feeling didn't go away when I read this one either.

I can't quite pinpoint what I dislike about the book series, but I think it comes down to a few little (but irritating) things. For one, the plot always promises more action, more adventure, more excitement, but never really comes to that. It's a bit slow, could do with being a LOT shorter due to this, and it never has the impact that I was hoping it would have, the same impact that I had with the Hunger Games or Maze Runner series. Secondly, the prose; it's long-winded with its descriptions, goes into too many details, and I just find myself getting bored and skipping pages.

I am unsure if I will continue to give this series the benefit of the doubt and continue reading the next book - I am someone who does like to finish a series when I start it, whether that be book or tv series, but I am admittedly struggling with this one. Hopefully the next book will take on some constructive feedback and try to up its game to appeal to more readers.
