I'm kind of torn by this series. I love the premise of the story and if it was carried out with the skill it deserves it could be a truly incredible series. The premise and plot really carry the story but the writing itself lacks finesse. Some sections are so cumbersome I almost gave up on them. There's a lot of overexplanation - I almost want to shout I KNOW THAT ALREADY!! My other issue with these books are the name choices, racial stereotypes aside, there seems to be a Hunger Games-esque tendency to choose extravagant names which don't suit the characters or add anything other than be confusing.
These complaints aside, I did enjoy this book for the most part. Dixen carries the pace throughout which kept me turning the pages and left me wanting more. I'd recommend this book as a light read to someone with enough patience to get past the flaws.
