"The sound of the bolts being drawn". This was the sentence that got me hooked. How horrific that they lock poor Daisy into her room. And the first conversation between Daisy and her "parents" is kind of intense. I really feel for her already. The way she doesn't know what to say or do around Malcolm and Harriet has me feeling a little heartbroken and very intrigued.
The kidnapping of Poppy sent shivers down my spine. The way Malcolm so casually thinks about taking her from school or the supermarket is scary.
