A true thriller.

Daisy lives, what she thinks is, a normal life. She remembers some of her earlier years, but as a nine year old she's more focused on the present. She wakes up, colours, eats, spends time with her parents and most importantly, never leaves her bedroom. When her parents tell her one day that she's going to get a baby sister, Daisy should be happy, but she knows the truth. And as her parents slide across the bolts on her bedroom door once more, Daisy is left to ponder on how having another kidnapped child will change the prison she has grown to know for the last three years.

As a familiarly heartbreaking abduction occurs in town, D.S Nathan Cody and his partner are ordered to uncover the truths of what is happening to these innocent little girls. But of course, not everything is as it seems.

David Jackson has delivered an incredible thriller. There is no question about it. The plot was fast paced whilst delivering an extremely drama-filled thriller with no cut corners and a lot of suspense. All of the characters were very well fleshed out and though the writing style followed a third person narrative, each chapter offered a dedicated insight into a specific characters thoughts, feelings and motives.

To begin with, I was very skeptical about Don't Make A Sound. I think it's maybe because I bought the book on a whim one day based on the cover alone. And as I began to read it, there were some characters that constantly mentioned 'what happened last time' or constantly hinting towards a previous incident. This made me believe that the book was going to flit between the past and present which is a very hit or miss writing style for me.

However...and a big however, I had absolutely no idea this book was a part of a complete D.S Nathan Cody series, which explains the constant referral to what happened in the past. That being said, Don't Make A Sound read brilliantly as a stand alone.

Though this wasn't necessarily a thriller where you have to work out who the villain is (it's revealed to you from the get-go), Don't Make a Sound is one of the few thrillers that I have read that has made me quite disturbed. Some of the horrors that the victims went through were truly heartbreaking and caused me to physically gasp. This was a nice change for me, allowing me to not piece together my own theories (which are always 90% wrong because most thriller authors deliver a mind blowing twist) and just focus on the suspense-filled events that were unfolding on each page.

This is a truly great thriller that is not only addictive and relatively easy to read, but the subtle plot twist at the end is enough to make you second guess everything that had happened in the last 300+ pages.
